Blog Article

Hi all.

I've been asked to write an article about blogging for the Orange County Christian Writer's Fellowship newsletter. Anyone who wishes to answer the questions below may get a comment or two included in the article.
  1. Does your blog have a purpose or theme?
  2. What blog hosting services do you use? If more than one, are there any advantages one over the other? Which would you recommend to a newbie?
  3. Have you added features to your blog - site meter, games, etc.? How did you locate these items? Do they serve any specific purpose, or are they for entertainment only?
  4. Do you have any security concerns? If so, how have you handled them?
  5. May I mention your name?
  6. May I mention your city? If so, what is your city?
  7. Do you have any thoughts on how writers can use blogs and/or web sites as a communication tool?

1. I started it to share family pictures and news with people who don't get to see us every day. It still pretty much serves that purpose, with a few random thoughts thrown in.
2. Blogger (Blogspot) I think it's user friendly both for bloggers and for readers.
3. I have a Site Meter. I look at it from time to time because it's fun to see who looks at my blog. For example, I have a reader from the UK who visits every single day!
4. Nope I don't. My husband is a Police Officer, we have danger much closer than someone stalking us on the internet.
5. Sure!
6. Yep, Bluffton, IN
7. I don't see blogs as anything BUT a communication tool! That's what you're doing when you post, isn't it? Communicating with whoever will listen!

1. I started my blog to inspire and encourage pastors in small communities. Since then, it's expanded to a broader audience.
2. I use Blogger -- It's free and easy.
3. I've added a site meter through (www.statcounter.com).
4. No security concerns
5. Sure
6. Yes -- Hayward, Wisconsin
7. It's a great way to "archive" good ideas that you want to retrieve later. I've found blogging to be a good discipline for my writing process. In blogdom, you need to be clear and brief if you want visitors to return.

1. Dang. I wish it did.

I guess mostly I try to share life experiences in a humorous way while bringing glory to God.

2. Blogger. It's easy. It's free. I used to use Xanga, but I've dropped off because only other Xangites can read and comment. Blogger is much more reader friendly.

3. site meter and a search engine hooey (Hooey is a technical term), a bike riding widget. Frankly, I don't like looking at blogs that widgeted to death. I think it just clutters up the screen. Consequently, I keep decluttering mine.

4. No. Even though I use pseudonyms, if someone really wants to find me, it's not that hard. Heck...they can get my address and phone number in a phone book. Ya know?

5. Sure you can, If you can find it... :D

6. Fairfield, Maine (also known elsewhere as "Podunk")

7. Um...no deep thoughts here from my shallow brain. Writing IS communication. Keep it clear, keep it kind, and make sure it's TRUE before you share it.
