Neighborhood Excitement

We saw the smoke from this fire as John was driving home from school. The flames were coming up a palm tree behind a home about five blocks from us. John slowed down to look and then commented, "Now I see why lookeyloos are so dangerous!" Lesson learned.

Shortly thereafter we heard the emergency vehicles whizzing by, then the news helicopter started buzzing our neighborhood. At 9:00 p.m. the streets were still closed and there was a convention of cable and electrical trucks on the street. News says the fire was caused by downed power lines and that seven backyards were affected. Thank God for a rapid response. This is the kind of thing that could have been much worse. We still have a lot of wooden shake roofs in the area.

Thanks for the good vibes. Electrical in our housing complex is underground, but we live in an older community that has a lot of overhead power lines. Not a good mix with dry weather and wind.
